Starting Over 2023
A new look, a new brand, and new pursuits.
- I’m continuing my role as The Fairy Godmother in Infosec’s online cyber security training episodes and loving every minute of it! Here’s a sneak peek: Cybersecurity awareness training just got magical!
- I shot a commercial for CapTel captioned phones
- I really enjoy my time as a Wardrobe Dresser for the Broadway tours as they come through town. So far this year, I have dressed the principals onJESUS CHRIST SUPERSTAR and the Lionesses in THE LION KING. (I was supposed to work HADESTOWN, but the dreaded Covid finally caught up with me in January…)
- I decided I would prefer to enjoy TOOTSIE from the audience and turned down that dresser gig, and got to enjoy my old pal Kathy Halenda (from THE PAJAMA GAME national tour we performed on together)!
- Although I made the decision to selectively pursue film & TV, I was made an offer I could not refuse when my friend, the great director/choreographer Josh Walden (with whom I had worked on CABARET and ON THE TOWN previously), recommended me for Transcendence Theatre’s production of THE FULL MONTY in Sonoma, Ca. so that’s where I’ll be summering. https://transcendencetheatre.org/whats-on/the-full-monty/
2022 (or: why I’m exhausted)
Since the pandemic began I have just been sitting around doing nothing… quite the opposite, actually!
Winter/Spring of 2022 was insanely busy- besides prepping for GREAT COMET (a beast) and teaching my regular classes, I:
- trained the WILD RUMPUS CIRCUS and choreographed their Grand Finale,
- Directed and Choreographed the spring musical at Our Lady Queen of Peace- which I helped the students write themselves,
- performed in Capital City Theatre's spring Cabaret,
- went through 4 months of interviews after being handpicked and approached as the new Executive Director for a well-established Theatre,
- worked as a Stagehand- Props for The Nutcracker and Alvin Ailey Dance Theatre, and as a Wardrobe Dresser for the national tours of
- HAIRSPRAY,
- THE PROM,
- HAMILTON,
- MEAN GIRLS,
- and PRETTY WOMAN
- and did all of that after being sideswiped in a car accident and developing a concussion and several body strains that took 6 months to recover from.
I choreographed both of Capital City Theatre’s mainstage shows: NATASHA, PIERRE, AND THE GREAT COMET OF 1812, and MERRILY WE ROLL ALONG.
- GREAT COMET was the professional midwest premiere of the production, where we transformed the Four Winds Farm barn into a Russian Inn to tell our story to an immersively captive audience. We were honored with TEN nominations from BroadwayWorld.com, including Best Choreography and Best Musical. I also performed in the ensemble. https://capitalcitytheatre.org/natasha-pierre-and-the-great-comet-of-1812
- The MERRILY cast was made up entirely of Conservatory alumni, and I referred to the show as "The Furniture Ballet". It was directed by Kitt LaVoie, who wrote and produced the documentary featured on Netflix, “Best Worst Thing That Could Have Happened”, about the original Merrily We Roll Along Broadway production. https://capitalcitytheatre.org/merrily-we-roll-along
Teaching has kept me busy; between regular classes at Monona Academy of Dance, Capital City Theatre’s Conservatory classes and “Find Your Light” course, plus private College pre-screen coachings, I spent a lot of time in the studio.

Summer/Fall of 2022
During the run of GREAT COMET in June, I announced my retirement from Musical Theatre. I decided to change my focus and pursue Film & TV. Almost immediately, I:
- signed with a production company in Rio, WI https://www.sincerelyvideo.com/talent
- signed with an Agent in Chicago https://www.babesnbeauschicago.com/view-talent.php?talentID=00000729
- shot a spot for UWHealth
- shot a couple of films in Madison
- "Patient", by Lori Felker, now making its way through the International Festival scene
- "The Long Leaving" by Sudden Gale Films
- and nabbed a recurring role in an industrial series for Infosec- a cyber security company (I'm the Fairy Godmother!)
I had the opportunity to go back to NYC and reunite with many of my long, lost friends there for a few days, before going to Washington, DC and recording a podcast for The Conner & Smith Show https://anchor.fm/connera.../episodes/Sabra-Michelle-e1nv3e3.
I took a full-time position with ARTS PEOPLE, a platform for non-profit Theatre, Dance, and Music organizations to expand their marketing, ticketing, and fundraising. https://neonone.com/products/arts-people/
In December, I helped my friend Tara realize her dream to be a Rockette, when the Cougar Ball produced and I directed and choreographed her journey in a one-woman Cabaret performed at Capital City Theatre's CORE.
Quarantine 2021
Who says life was boring during the shutdown?!
- In 2021, I Choreographed URINETOWN at Children’s Theatre of Madison (CTM), “Dirt” for the Overture’s Jerry Ensemble, and have been working on a one-woman show for an adult student who wanted to make the dream of being a Rockette come true (TBA- Dec 3, 2022)- sounds like a Cougar Ball to me!
- I Judged my final STARZ Dance Competition; with so many unknowns about Covid-19 at that time, it was much too stressful.
- I continued to use my new Real Estate license and help many friends relocate into the life they wanted. Just like in dance, “Follow me, and I’ll get you moving!” My husband and I participated in our civic duty by working the Wisconsin recount for the 2020 election. That was an intense, and educational process.
- I produced CBV- A Cougar Ball Virtual series of 6 episodes, starring many of our favorite alumni. I finally got to create a version of a piece that had been inspiring me for many years (and I still hope to one day write a whole book show based on it). At the time, you had to pay per view, but now you can see it here: https://youtu.be/Bfqjhbe1QEY
- Did you know that medical schools use actors to teach their med students how to diagnose and treat patients? I became a Standardized Patient for UW-Madison and learned a lot about hospitals and improv!
- During the pandemic, our IATSE Local 251 lost 5 members, some of whom were friends of mine, but all of whom were long-standing members. I helped organize a memorial for them, and chose to honor them by opening the service with a dance I choreographed and performed. We held it, appropriately, onstage at the Capitol Theatre at Overture Center. Since the building was closed, we were given special permission, and held it in front of the disassembled organ that you can see in the background on the floor. Stagehands honored: “Phil” Wedige, Robert “Bob” Monschein, Kathleen “Neen” Rock, William “Bill” Koch, Al Sundby. The screen that comes down at the end says “In Memorium” with the IATSE logo bug. You can see my tribute here: https://youtu.be/T7gRFFoGXJA
2020 - The year that barely happened
On March 13, I was just a few days into a 3 week run as a dresser on the National Tour of WICKED at the Overture Center, when we abruptly closed. The set hung in the air of a dark theatre getting dusty for over 6 months before we went back to pack it up and send it home. Although Live theatre shut down due to the pandemic, I was lucky enough to stay busy acting in 4 different virtual shows, in the enterprising new Zoom-scape:
RAPUNZEL as the Two-Headed Monster with Broadway's Michael Marra; ROAD TO FOREVER, an original play by Sam Cooper as the Mole and the Joker; and returning to old pals Mom, Connie Can't-Do, Mrs. Waldo, and the Goddess Athena in MISS ELECTRICITY produced by Mariposa Theatre for Young Audiences https://mariposatheatre.org/
I really got to stretch my adult acting skills in the very mature dark comedy WOMEN LAUGHING ALONE WITH SALAD by Sheila Callaghan. I played Sandy (and Guy!) The Constructivists is known for creating viscerally driven theatre and challenging, enlightening, educating, and entertaining a diverse, mature audience. https://www.theconstructivists.org/productions/2020-21-season/women-laughing-alone-with-salad
With the help of large studios, small class sizes, Zoom (again), new HVAC, masks (duh) and lots of Lysol, I was able to safely continue teaching my students in a hybrid of virtual and in-person classes at Monona Academy of Dance and Capital City Theatre Conservatory. These programs have been generous and the students come in craving the personal attention and creative release more than ever, and I am so grateful that they were able to provide a service that was so desperately needed during this time. I'm proud to teach Ballet, Tap, Jazz, Musical Theatre, and Personal Coaching for them. https://www.mononaacademyofdance.org/about; https://capitalcitytheatre.org/dance
I also made a huge pivot by hanging out my shingle as a licensed Real Estate Agent for the State of Wisconsin! I wouldn't normally mention this on my performing website, but have you seen my commercials?! "Follow me; I'll get you moving!" https://www.facebook.com/SabraWeinkaufStarkRealty
